The Circle of Food News

This week’s food news brings us exciting openings and sad closures. It’s the circle of life, I suppose. Let’s start off with the openings. I’ve got details for you on two new joints that will serve two similarly shaped breakfast favorites: Doughnuts and bagels. While I’d say 2026 is already looking super tasty, we are only a week into the year, and two local favorites have already announced permanent closures and a handful of places are temporarily closed. Read all about it, plus a few Itty Bitty News Bites (featuring a date for Whip Solstice, which is practically a local holiday). Regardless of this bad news, I am still wishing you a delicious week ahead.—Tessa Cooper

Mix Up Your Coffee Routine

I recently wrote this article on where to find international coffee around 417-land. I learned so much putting it together, and I hope it teaches you something new, too. Find out where you can grab Mexican, Vietnamese, Cuban, Greek, Lebanese, Thai and Cuban coffee locally.

Sweet Treat Time

I visited The Boba House for the first time on a weekday around 3:30 p.m., and I noticed one thing about the patrons: many were parents and their school-aged kids. I ordered the milk bites, and I think they’d make a great after-school treat.

Soup Weather

Even though it’s been a mild winter, let’s not forget that a high of only 46°F is still indeed soup weather. I highly suggest swinging by Hot Bowl by Everyday Thai and ordering the braised chicken soup ASAP. The combination of coriander and garlic in the made-from-scratch broth is simply incredible.

Itty Bitty News Bites

• Skully’s is closing, but it’s making way for a new bagel concept.
• There will soon be a new spot where you can get your doughnut fix in Springfield.

• Sad news, folks. Not only is Skully’s closing up shop, the Wheelhouse is too.
• There seems to be a mini trend going around right now of temporary food closures. Here are a few places that have shuttered their doors for now but plan to reopen soon.

Read all the details over on the blog.
