Cultivate Your Cozy in 2026

I love all the issues of 417 Magazine, but the most recent one is probably one of my favorites ever. From the icy image on the cover to the sheepskin covered spaces of my friend Janae Hardy’s beautiful Brentwood home (see more on that below), everything makes me want to adventure outside all bundled up, then curl up inside, enjoying my decluttered home. It feels like winter makes us appreciate our homes so much more. One of my family's favorite traditions is returning home to our roaring woodburning stove after a winter hike and skimming our favorite cookbooks together for new recipes to try. This issue is packed with beautiful winter inspo, and I truly can't wait for our first snow of 2026!—Heather Kohler

 Home Decor Trends for 2026

January is the perfect time to refresh your home decor, and these trends are some of my personal favorites.

Embrace the New Neutrals

We’re seeing a big shift from beige spaces to spaces with rich and earthy color. Designers call them the “new neutrals,” meaning they still pair well within a variety of brighter colors and patterns but have a calming effect, making your space feel zen and grounded. Think golden hues, soft blues, dusty rust, muted soft pinks and navy. These colors feel rich but don’t overwhelm your space.

Bring in Handcrafted and Artisanal Elements

Designers and homeowners alike are celebrating all things hand-made. From hande-made rugs to pottery, anything that feels bespoke is popular again. Wallpapers that mimic paintings with brushstrokes and even finishes with uneven surfaces are being used in homes.

Create Purposeful Spaces

We are continuing to pull away from open concept living and instead creating spaces that feel intimate and purposeful. Libraries, game rooms, craft rooms and quiet corners for mindful moments are what homeowners are craving this year, and who could blame them? I think we are all wanting design that focuses on calm and opportunities to unplug in 2026.

A Winter Haven

Local lifestyle photographer Janae Hardy’s 1966 Brentwood ranch home is such a breath of fresh air. Her white walls, perfectly framed art and layers of cozy texture feel so beautifully curated and special. I think everyone wishes their home could be like hers in the new year! Take a tour of her eclectic space and get ready to swoon.

Start a Supper Club

Supper clubs are huge right now because they bring people together and facilitate learning and sharing what everyone loves: food!

January’s Flower

Carnations have always gotten a bad rap, but these ruffly blooms are actually a strong player in the floral world.
